The highest surface wind speed on earth was recorded at the observatory atop Mount Washington. On April 12, 1934 the wind speed reached an astonishing 231 miles per hour. Because of the extreme weather conditions many buildings are chained to the mountain and the observatory has been built to withstand 300 mile per hour winds. |
